I am absolutely thrilled with the photos Nicola captured of my gorgeous old girl Rani. We chose an early morning beach visit, her most favourite place, and in no time she was doing exactly as asked to allow for some great shots that truly show the dog she is. Rani is not usually a fan of strangers but Nicola soon had her relaxed and looking straight at the camera. The whole process was easy and fun. Her portrait now hangs where I can see it many times a day and I smile every single time. This will be one to treasure for many years to come. Highly recommend if you want something truly special of your furbaby.

I’m Nicola, the dog-obsessed photographer behind Dog-eared Photography, based in Christchurch. Having been a lifelong dog lover with my own unique and challenging rescue dog, I know the emotional journeys we go through with our dogs and how important they are to us. It was this journey that inspired me to create something special: a way for other dog owners to celebrate their dogs’ stories through stunning photography.
This led me to hone my craft as an award-winning dog photographer. Every photograph I take is more than just an image: it’s a piece of art which showcases your dog’s individuality and the story you share together. As a dog photographer in Christchurch and North Canterbury, I work in a variety of outdoor locations, such as beaches, woodlands, parks, you name it! In your pre-session consultation I will find out all about your pet and what you are looking for and we will decide on the perfect location together, making sure your pet's safety is paramount.

Absolutely. In fact, most of the images of dogs you see here were taken on lead, and the magic of retouching removed them without a trace!

This is not a problem! I have two very rambunctious pups so I am used to working with high-energy dogs who struggle to remain calm at times! Working with and owning dogs over the years has taught me a lot and I understand the importance of empathy and patience when working with our four-legged friends.

Absolutely. As the owner of a reactive rescue dog I know first-hand that not all dogs are comfortable around strangers, other dogs, or unfamiliar environments.
Every session is tailored to your dog and their needs, ensuring they feel relaxed and secure throughout the session.

Within about a week of your session we’ll meet again on Zoom for your ordering appointment, where you’ll see your images for the first time in a beautiful slideshow.
Together, we’ll go through your gallery, choose your favourite images, and design artwork that’s perfect for your home.
This is when you’ll make your final selections, place your order, and make payment.
Once you’ve made your selections I’ll carefully retouch your chosen portraits and your artwork will go into production, ready to be displayed in your home.

I specialise in creating beautiful artwork and albums that you get to see and enjoy every day, so I don’t offer digital only collections.
Matching digital files are included with any wall art, album, or portrait box purchase.

Most clients invest between $1500 and $2500 on their finished artwork, while some choose larger collections and invest more.
We’ll discuss all of this in detail before you book, so you can decide whether the experience is right for you and your budget.
