Auckland dog-friendly cafes - north shore edition

We all know that Aucklanders love their brunch, so dog owners in Auckland often ask me for recommendations on cafes they can take their dogs to. As I live on the North Shore I thought I would start with some suggestions of great places here to take your pooch for that smashed avo on toast (no avo for the dogs though please!)

bark & brew - browns bay

At Bark & Brew (formerly The Stoned Cow) all of the staff have their own dogs so they really love their canine customers and dogs are welcome both inside and outside. They also support animal rescue and host events there to bring awareness. There are amazing views right over the water and they open at 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends to make sure those early risers are suitably fuelled for the day! Pictured here is one of their regular doggie customers, Boo the Swiss Shepherd/Husky.

lily eatery - devonport

Lily Eatery is a gorgeous little cafe with a big heart, where everything is made from scratch. Dogs are welcome both inside and outside and they even have a jar of treats for their four-pawed customers! Naomi is a long-time team member at Lily and you will see her and her gorgeous boy, Koda, above. Some of their specialities include corn frits and Turkish eggs, as well as their delicious egg tarts. These are only available on Fridays though and usually sell out fast so you’ll need to get in quick!

DIT - BIRKENHEAD

DIT is a small bistro located in the heart of Birkenhead and customers love the homely feel. Owner and chef, Tom, is from Holland so the food is Dutch-influenced and all made fresh in house and has been described as the perfect balance between fine dining and healthy comfort food. Dogs are welcome both inside and outside and the pups from Chained Dog Rehabilitation and Rehoming (including Joey, who you will see above) are regular visitors.

vanilla cafe - belmont

Vanilla Cafe is owned by couple Ceicei and Bo who have 2 gorgeous pups, Kobie and Oreo. Ceicei and Bo both bake the delicious treats on offer there – the traditional basque cheesecake is a fan favourite and I can confirm that the scones are also very tasty! The matcha strawberry latte is also very popular with the locals. Dogs are welcome both inside and outside and they have many regular canine visitors, including Harley, the handsome boy you see above.

fields cafe - albany

Fields Café is a new neighbourhood café and eatery based in Albany. Dogs are welcome in the spacious, covered, outdoor area and it has its own playground so the kids will love it too. There is a function room which holds 20 people, which is popular for birthday parties and events, and everything is homemade – one of their specialities is the yummy chilli scramble.

bungalo - birkenhead

Bungalo Café is a fantastic spot for dog lovers, offering seamless indoor-outdoor flow, so your furry friend can feel right at home. With beautiful views to enjoy, it’s the perfect place to relax with your pet. The amazing cabinet food and extensive menu cater to all tastes, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Plus, the friendly staff provide great service, making every visit a pleasure for both you and your dog.
